When Marie of MK Photography & Design asked if I would serve as her second shooter for an October wedding (my favorite month of the year), I was ecstatic. I mostly photograph little ones, so a change of pace was a little like a vacation.
Shane and Arica Brown tied the knot in Rensselaer, Indiana on October 1. The day started out a little dreary and rainy, but it ended up being a perfect day for a wedding. We met Arica and her lovely bridal party at a beautiful, recently-built farmhouse just outside of town with gorgeous sliding doors. The house was a photographer’s dream location for getting-ready photos.
After Arica, the bridesmaids, and flower girls were ready, we headed to the church, where Shane, Arica, and Shane’s daughter — Jaylyn — officially became a family. The sun came out during the ceremony and left us perfect light for photos right before the reception.
I was technically working during the reception, but it didn’t feel like it. People were loving the dance floor, and Arica even let Marie, Breeanne (Marie’s assistant), and me have a piece of the cheesecake Arica and Shane cut in place of cake. Cheesecake is my absolute favorite, so thank you, Arica!
It’s hard to pick a favorite moment of this special day. I mean, I cracked up when Arica read part of the note Shane wrote her before the ceremony that ended with “Smell you later,” and I had to hide behind my camera when I teared up during the father-daughter dance. Shane and Arica had a beautiful day surrounded by wonderful people, and I was thankful for the opportunity to photograph this Rensselaer, Indiana wedding.
Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Brown! My prayer for you is that you will always keep Christ at the center of your marriage and family.
